• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Following a recent encounter in Brgy. Tabugon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Provincial Commission on Elections supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria yesterday said that the Joint Provincial Security Coordinating Center (JPSCC) will meet again on October 4 to determine if its green category will be upgraded to a higher level.

The encounter on September 21 in Sitio Lubi, Brgy. Tabugon, Kabankalan City, claimed the lives of six suspected New People’s Army rebels, as reported by the military.

Of the 662 barangays in Negros Occidental, including highly urbanized Bacolod City, 611 are categorized as green, or having no cause for concern.

The remaining 51 barangays are tagged as election areas of concern by the PJSCC.

A month before the October 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Provincial Comelec supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria yesterday said that the elections in Negros Occidental has started to heat up.

Among the Election Areas of Concern (EAC) in Negros Occidental, three barangays are categorized as areas of concern (yellow category), 45 as areas of immediate concern (orange category), and three others are areas of grave concern (red category).*
