Sixth District Representative-elect Mercedes Alvarez is determined to push for the completion of the airport constructed in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
“It has already started. We should finish it,” Alvarez, who replaced her father Genaro as the Negros Occidental 6th district solon, said.
Alvarez reported that the concreting of Kabankalan 1.2-kilometer-long runway is about to finish. “We are now waiting the funds for the construction of terminal building,” she added.
“Hopefully, the new administration under BBM (Bongbong Marcos) will also make it as a priority,” Alvarez said, noting that the airport is already a priority project of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
The 100-hectare airport is located in Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City.
Alvarez said that she will also push for the runway extension in order to accommodate bigger aircraft.
Kabankalan City Domestic Airport will initially contain cargo and passenger terminals, a control tower and loading and navigation systems.*
