Kabankalan mayoral candidates trade ‘endorsement photos’

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Kabankalan City mayoral race appears to be heating up, as prospective candidates are having fun in the social media, over who will be getting the support and endorsement of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.

On Wednesday, former Mayor Isidro Zayco posted a photo of him showing Lacson raising his hand, as if to imply that the governor is endorsing him.

Lacson, who happened to meet Zayco during a meeting with farmers in Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, clarified that it was the former mayor who raised his hand.

“I’m just an instrument of their joy,” Lacson said in jest.

Not to be outdone, after a few hours later incumbent Mayor Benjie Miranda also posted a photo of his request from the governor to install a power supply on the city’s booth at the Panaad Park.

Miranda also captioned the photo “sunod ako naman mapa bayaw” in an apparent tirade against Zayco’s action.

They are having fun in Kabankalan City, Lacson said.

Zayco and Lacson are both members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

As of this time, Zayco has yet to announce whether he will be running as mayor of Kabankalan City, in the 2025 midterm elections.

Zayco is the provincial chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, affiliated with Lacson.

Asked if he will support Zayco, Lacson said he will make the decision during the filing of Certificate of Candidacy from October 1 to 8 this year.

Miranda has declared his intention to seek reelection as mayor of Kabankalan City, while Board Member Valentino Miguel Alonso is also eyeing to join that mayoral race.*
