The tandem of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer also got the full support of all the Kabankalan City officials, Mayor Pedro Zayco disclosed.

Lacson is affiliated with Love Negros, while Ferrer is the president of United Negros Alliance.

Zayco said the agreement of both parties to enter into a merger aims to prevent political battles at the local level.

But Zayco said he is not aware yet if somebody will challenge him for the Kabankalan City mayoral post in the May elections next year.

Aside from Zayco, Vice Mayor Raul Rivera and all incumbent councilors are seeking reelection, except for one who is expected to complete his three terms June 30 next year.

Zayco also said that his brother, former Kabankalan City Mayor Isidro Zayco is still the chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) in Negros Occidental, where he and Gov. Lacson are among the members.

Mayor Zayco added that his brother will probably be still the one to sign their Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA).

On Sept. 14, Lacson and Zayco discussed preparations for the filing of COCs set on October 1- 8.

“We are still waiting for the arrival of CONAs from the national office as well as for instructions on who the NPC will support for president in the 2022 elections,” Zayco said.

So far only Senate President Vicente Sotto, the NPC chair, has officially signified his plan to run as vice president with Senator Panfilo Lacson as president, he added.*
