Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island continues its restiveness, as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported on Sunday that it logged anew 19 volcanic quakes.
The volcano also showed a high sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission rate of 2,094 tonnes per day, as of Jan 24, with moderate plumes recorded by PHIVOLCS as high as 150 meters.
Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, which indicates continued magmatic unrest.
PHIVOLCS also stressed that the entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to risks of sudden steam-driven (phreatic) eruptions.*
