A validation team from the National Task Force Kanlaon (NTFK) is set to arrive in the province in mid-October to verify and assess the additional proposed recovery and development projects by the Office of Civil Defense-Negros Island Region (OCD-NIR) and Regional Task Force Kanlaon (RTFK) in Negros Occidental.

The proposed projects are located in several cities and municipalities in the province affected by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.

OCD-NIR Director Donato Sermeno III said that the proposed rehabilitation and the development projects are for the local government units who were directly affected by the eruption were part of the ongoing Kanlaon Recovery and Development Plan (KRDP), a plan created under Administrative Order No. 32 from the Office of the President to accelerate the recovery and resilience of affected communities.

“They [the validation team] will arrive here mid-October to inspect other proposed recovery projects,” he said.

Sermeno disclosed that most of the proposed recovery and development projects are in the cities of Bago and San Carlos, municipalities of La Castellana and Murcia, Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.

“Most of these projects were bridges, roads, and other development of infrastructure that were affected by the Kanlaon eruption,” he said.

Moreover, Sermeno revealed that the validation group from the national government will be divided into three groups for a faster assessment.

Among the first two proposals were the water system in La Carlota City and a bridge in the town of Moises Padilla which were damaged by the Kanlaon Volcano.*
