The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) yesterday logged two short lived ash emissions from the crater of Kanlaon volcano, reaching as high as 300 meters, which drifted towards a westerly direction.
Mari-Andylene Quintia, PHIVOLCS resident volcanologist at the Mt. Kanlaon Observatory, said the ash emission was recorded at 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. on November 15.
PHIVOLCS also said Friday that Kanlaon spewed 4,246 metric tons per day of sulfur dioxide flux, and recorded 13 volcanic quakes in the past 24 hours.
Alert Level 2 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.
In an issued advisory, the Office of the Protected Area Superintendent of the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park said that evacuated individuals residing within the 4 kilometer Permanent Danger Zone are not yet allowed to go back to their respective homes.
Communities living beside river systems on the southern and western slopes, especially those that have already experienced lahar and muddy stream flows, have been also advised to take precautionary measures when heavy rains fall.*
