The summit crater of the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental emitted ash anew in the past 24 hours, with episodes lasting from nine to 38 minutes, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
Nine volcanic earthquakes were also detected during the monitoring period, with sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions recorded at 6.432 tons per day, showing that the volcano is releasing gases.
The five ash emission events, according to PHIVOLCS, generated grayish plumes that rose 500 meters above the crater before drifting west and southwest.
Phivolcs reiterated its call for vigilance among residents of communities located at the foot of Kanlaon volcano.
Authorities are encouraging residents to stay clear of the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), in order to be safe from unexpected volcanic activity, such as rock falls and ash emissions.*
