Kanlaon Volcano emits more ash

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported the occurrence of two more ash emission events at Kanlaon Volcano on January 11.

The first ash emission took place at 7:51 a.m. and followed by another event at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Since Jan. 3, PHIVOLCS has already logged eight ash emissions at Kanlaon Volcano, which indicated possible signs that magma is rising.

The Jan. 9 ash emission lasted 15 minutes

On Jan. 10, the state volcanologist also recorded five volcanic quakes at the volcano.

Alert Level 2 is in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, and entry into the 4-kilometer permanent danger zone remains strictly prohibited.*
