BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

La Carlota City Councilor Julius Martin Asistio has expressed his intention to run as president of the Philippine Councilors League – Negros Occidental, revealed Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr yesterday.

While he has not yet personally talked with Asistio, Escalante said the information was relayed to him by United Negros Alliance (UNegA) chairman, Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III.

Silay City Councilor Ryan Gamboa is the incumbent PCL-Negros Occidental president. He sits as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Asistio is the son of Negros Occidental 4th District Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer.

Escalante, the UnegA secretary general, yesterday said that he suggested to Rep. Marañon that their political group will have to meet with Love Negros to discuss the PCL elections before making any announcements, noting that Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer are very close.

Gamboa was supported by Love Negros, which is affiliated with Lacson, during the PCL- Negros Occidental elections in 2019.

UnegA members are slated to meet during the second week of this month to discuss not only the local PCL, but also the League of Municipalities of the Philippines provincial chapter, as well as the Association of Chief Executive elections, Escalante said.*
