The Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in Negros Occidental has been expanded, courtesy of the La Carlota City government.

Mayor Rex Jalando-on, who is also a doctor, said they have allocated a budget of P4.8 million for the construction of five private rooms at DSBMDH in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, which are now ready for occupancy.

Jalando-on said the five private rooms are exclusive for use by patients who are La Carlota residents.

The price of occupancy per room is much less compared to other private hospitals, the mayor stressed.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan yesterday said that as a counterpart, they will provide personnel to attend patients in the private rooms.

Pinongan encouraged local government units where government hospitals are located, to allocate funds for the construction of hospital rooms, for the exclusive use of their patients.

However, our hospitals will still cater to patients from other LGUs, she stressed.

DSBMDH chief Dr. Carmelo Arguelles said that there will be more improvements in the hospital to allow it to cater to more patients.

According to Pinongan, DSBMDH is a 25 bed capacity medical facility, although the number of patients accommodated can reach as much as 50 in some instances.*
