A laborer was hacked to death by his colleague after a brief altercation at about 12:15 a.m. yesterday in Brgy. Cabug, Bacolod City.

The victim was identified by Station 9 commander, P/Lt. Lanie Deriada, as Allan Cordova, 44, of Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City in Negros Occidental, and temporarily staying in Purok Malipayon, Brgy. Cabug.

Deriada said Cordova died on the spot due to multiple hack wounds while the suspect, Rodel Ansag, 23, of Brgy. Cansalungon in Isabela town, escaped with the cane cutter he used in committing the crime.

Investigation showed that the two, with a minor companion, who was not named, came from a drinking spree when the incident happened.

Witness Gabriel Jovines told the police that he was in their barracks when he heard Ansag and Cordova arguing, adding that when he peeked through the door, he saw the former with blood and holding a cane cutter.

Jovines said he went back to bed and pretended to be asleep, waited for Ansag to leave, before he came out to check what had happened.

When Jovines saw Cordova bathed in blood, he said he called for help and awakened their companions, who reported the incident to authorities, Deriada said.

A hot pursuit operation was launched to arrest Ansag. The body of Cordova was brought to the Villarosa Funeral Homes in Brgy. Mansilingan.

BODY FOUND

Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man found floating around one kilometer off the shorelines of Purok San Miguel in Sum-ag, Bacolod City, remained unclaimed at the Villarosa Funeral homes, as of press time yesterday.

Deriada said several individuals already went to the police station to check if the man was their relative. She said fishermen saw the body, about 20 years old and around 5 feet in height, floating in the sea, adding that it was naked, without visible wounds, and already in an advanced state of decomposition.*
