A 46-year-old laborer was killed in a knife attack at Purok 1, Barangay Mambugsay, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, while two others were injured in separate violent incidents in the town on Monday.
Initial investigation revealed that, according to his wife, the victim, alias Rey, was inside their house when the suspect passed by, shouting and challenging him to come outside.
After the victim went outside, he and the suspect, alias Nardo, 37, grappled with each other. The suspect punched the victim several times, then drew a knife from his waist and stabbed him multiple times.
The victim managed to walk a short distance but eventually collapsed and died at the scene. The suspect fled after the incident and remains at large as of press time.
Further investigation revealed that the victim and suspect had a long-standing personal grudge, which was believed to have triggered the attack.
Hours later, a shooting incident occurred in Barangay Elihan, resulting in a 24-year-old farmer being injured after he was shot by alias Jovet, 42, over an issue related to liquor intoxication.
Police said that the victim and his live-in partner’s family were celebrating the birthday of his partner’s mother. During the drinking session, the suspect arrived and caused a commotion and scandal in front of the residence.
The victim confronted the suspect and asked him to stop. However, the suspect responded by punching the victim, leading to a physical altercation.
During the struggle, the victim managed to subdue the suspect, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then left the scene and returned shortly afterward with a firearm.
The suspect shot the victim twice, hitting him in the left leg. The victim, assisted by his partner’s family members, successfully disarmed the suspect.
Both the victim and the suspect were rushed to the hospital, where they received treatment from the attending physician. Both are in stable condition.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Poblacion, a 40-year-old tricycle driver was mauled on the morning of the same day.
Investigation revealed that while the victim was sitting on his tricycle, waiting for a passenger, he was struck by alias Leo, 36, with a stone wrapped in a face towel, causing injuries to his head.
The victim was immediately rushed to Cauayan District Hospital for medical treatment. After medication, he was discharged.
The suspect is in the custody of Cauayan MPS for proper disposition.*
