Laborer nabbed with P350K drugs; smuggled cigarettes seized

In an anti-illegal drugs operation conducted by law enforcement in Negros Occidental on Monday, a laborer was arrested in Don Salvador Benedicto for drug possession, while a sack of abandoned smuggled cigarettes was found in Hinoba-an.

During an operation carried out by the Negros Occidental Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) at Purok Kapehan, Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, a 38-year-old laborer with the alias ‘Baka’ was apprehended after authorities seized almost P350,000 worth of suspected shabu from his possession.

Police said that the suspect, a resident of the town, was arrested after he handed over a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu to a police poseur-buyer in exchange for buy-bust money.

As a result, police confiscated approximately 51 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P346,800.

The suspect, who is now in police custody, will face criminal charges for violation of RA 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

ABANDONED CONTRABAND

Meanwhile, a sack containing smuggled cigarettes was discovered on Monday evening along the roadside drainage of Sitio Manalimsim, Barangay Pook, Hinoba-an.

Police said that during validation, authorities found the sack containing twenty-four reams of smuggled cigarettes.

The estimated value of the recovered cigarettes is P6,624.

The cigarettes were turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for proper disposition.

BAGO BUY BUST

The Bago Component City Police Station (BCCPS) successfully apprehended a 35-year-old laborer and seized approximately 1.5 grams of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Talocon Monday, February 9.

The sting, which took place at 11 a.m. in Purok High School, and yielded shabu with an estimated value of P10,200.

Beyond the illegal drugs, operatives recovered a 500-peso bill used as buy-bust money along with various drug-related paraphernalia.

The suspect is now in police custody and faces formal charges for the sale and possession of illegal drugs under the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In a statement, the BCCPS urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities, promising that all provided information will be handled with the strictest confidentiality.*
