Laborer stabbed in sugarcane field

• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

A 43-year-old laborer was severely injured after being stabbed by his friend at a sugarcane plantation in Hacienda Silos, Barangay Talaban, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Monday late evening.

Investigation revealed that at around 11:00 p.m., the suspect identified as alias ‘Boy,’ 50, a laborer, invited the victim from his residence at Hacienda Naval for a drinking session at Hacienda Silos.

The victim reportedly came with the suspect and upon arriving at a sugarcane plantation, the suspect suddenly stabbed him in the chest with a bladed weapon.

Police said that after the assault, the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Further investigation disclosed by the authorities stated that the suspect held a grudge against the victim, stemming from an incident where the victim allegedly punched the suspect during a New Year’s celebration.

The suspect was arrested following a hot pursuit operation launched by the law enforcers. He is now under police custody for proper disposition.*
