The call to restore the Negros Island Region (NIR) continues to snowball, as Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson pins his hope on the next administration for its revival.
“Without a doubt majority if not all Negrenses would like to have NIR, Lacson said, stressing that his stand on NIR does not change.
Vice President Leni Robredo also expressed her support to the NIR restoration.
NIR, which was created through an executive order issued by the late President Beningo Aquino III, was abolished by President Rodrigo Duterte when he assumed office in 2016.
Negrense lawyer Alex Lacson, who is among the 12 senatorial candidates of Robredo-Senator Kiko Pangilinan tandem, earlier said that he will support the proposal to revive NIR, which was also re-echoed by Negros Occidental 5th district congressional aspirant Emilio “Dino” Yulo, a former vice governor of the province.
Lacson said he hopes that the next administration will consider again reviving the NIR, this time supported by Law so that it would be allocated with budget.*
