Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday vowed to strengthen the Magna Carta for Women and continue to create and uphold programs and policies with regards to good practices and measures in the pursuit of gender and development.

Lacson, who spoke at the kick off ceremony of the Provincial Women’s Month celebration, with a theme “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran” in Talisay City, called on participants “to continue the pursuit of women’s equality with boldness and courage.”

The activity, held at Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City, was organized by the Provincial Council for Women headed by its president, Andrea Lizares-Si, in coordination with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

Former Bacolod City Councilor Celia Flor talked on Developing a Woman’s Agenda by Celia Flor, while Ruth Robinson briefed participants on the DSWD Social Protection Programs. Provincial DTI provincial director Rachel Nufable also discussed the DTI Programs, while Dr. Irene Gaile Robredo-Vitas briefed participants on the relevance of the 2022 Elections.

Negros Occ. Board Members Rita Gatuslao, Araceli Somosa and Juvy Pepello, and Provincial Consultant Rafael Coscolluela, also gave their respective messages at the activity.

Lacson said that celebrating women’s month is a considerable proof of the journey taken, the victories and progress secured by the women’s movement.

“At present, women are thriving in all sectors of society and are succeeding in careers and endeavors that women from decades past can only imagine,” Lacson, who chairs the Provincial GAD Focal Point System and Provincial Committee Against Trafficking, Child Pornography, and Violence Against Women and Children, said.

PCW advisers Mari June Castro, who is the Provincial GAD Focal Point System action officer, and Dionela Flores-Madrona, City Social Welfare Development Officer of Talisay City, led the workshop on “The Women’s Agenda”.*
