It was a last-minute goal, scored against Lady Ronins fullback and what would’ve been keeper Cher Danielle Vaflor’s clean sheet, that sealed Cebu Urduja’s championship crown during the finals game of 11th Sinulog Football Cup, women’s open Category on January 22 at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Artificial Turf in Cebu City.
The silver medalists, Gardenville United Football Club Inc. – Ronins, is the lone Bacolod City delegation in the tournament, powered by The City Mayors Office, Congressman Greg Gasataya, Congressman Stephen Paduano and the Sketchy Horse, put up a gallant stand against a well-conditioned Central Visayas powerhouse.
Ronins dominated the group C bracket, with a 2-0-1 standing, where Gloria Rafaella Salazar earned the team’s trip to the quarter finals against USJR in a sudden death penalty shootout, ending in a 1-0 score line.
In the semifinals match that followed, Salazar scored a goal in the 10th minute against SRFC, proudly showcasing a Negrense football style final match, witnessed by a full house at the state of the art Cebu City Stadium.*
