A new community theater group in Sagay City is set to debut its first stage production, “Tinawo” on April 26 at the Sagay City Youth Center, a press release from Sagay PIO said.
Lamharon Repertory, composed of Sagaynon artists and aspiring performers, is mounting the production as its inaugural presentation after weeks of workshops and rehearsals involving local youth and creatives.
The play, written by award-winning playwright Rocky Nicor and directed by Mark L. Garcia, explores themes of memory, loss, and identity through a symbolic narrative that follows characters searching for meaning in a fragmented world.
The production brings together actors from different backgrounds, mostly students and young Sagaynons, portraying figures such as farmers, fisherfolk, students, media workers, and travelers, reflecting various realities within the community and the nation as a whole.
The April 26 performance will serve as the group’s send-off show before representing Sagay City at the Iloilo Theater Festival scheduled on May 2 to 3.
Nicor said the production aims to highlight the importance of community theater as a space for expression and reflection, particularly for young artists.
“We hope that Tinawo will be a kick-off point for building a culture of theater storytelling in Sagay,” he said.
Lamharon Repertory was formed to create accessible and grounded theater productions rooted in local stories while nurturing the next generation of performers.
The show will start at 6 p.m. at the Sagay City Youth Center.
