Nineteen agrarian reform beneficiaries became landowners after they received their Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) in rites held recently in Barangay 13, Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

The 4.2340-hectare landholding was formerly owned by Ana Eva Francisco and distributed by the Department of Agrarian Reform through land acquisition and distribution.

Public and private agricultural landholdings are acquired by the government to be distributed to tenants, farmers, farmworkers, and/or other tillers who are qualified to become ARBs, in the form of CLOAs covering one contiguous tract or several parcels of land cumulated up to a maximum of three hectares per ARB, the DAR Negros Occidental 1 said in a press release.

This is anchored on the agency’s aim to provide lands to landless farmers and farmworkers, guarantee the farmers’ land security, deliver social equity, and provide them with necessary productive resources needed to ensure their economic viability and productivity, it added.

Meanwhile, the DAR Negros Occidental I office at Dawis, San Sebastian Street in Bacolod City was closed from September 9 until yesterday for disinfection.

It will resume operations on Monday.*
