Legislative-Executive partnership boosts economic standing – solon

The House of Representatives celebrates the recent upgrade of the Philippines’ credit outlook to “positive” by S&P Global Ratings, a move that reflects the country’s strengthened economic position and effective governance, a press release from the House of Representatives said.

Deputy Speaker David “Jayjay” Suarez credited the achievement to the cohesive partnership between the legislative and executive branches under the Marcos administration.

“This recognition is proof that united leadership brings tangible results for the Filipino people,” Suarez said.

Suarez highlighted the role of the House in advancing legislative measures that complement President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.‘s economic reforms.

He also pointed out that the House’s efforts align closely with the administration’s goal of promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.

S&P’s decision to upgrade the country’s outlook was based on improved fiscal management, consistent infrastructure investments and robust policy frameworks.

Suarez noted the benefits of the improved outlook for the country’s finances.

“Lower borrowing costs mean the government can redirect more funds toward critical services like healthcare, education and livelihood programs. This is how we ensure that economic growth directly benefits every Filipino,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of building on this momentum to achieve the goal of an “A” credit rating.

On fiscal reforms, Suarez underscored their necessity in building trust with international financial institutions.

He reaffirmed the House’s support for the Marcos administration’s economic initiatives, stressing that legislation remains a critical tool in achieving national development goals.*
