BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Vice-President Leni Robrero yesterday brushed aside comments against her by a student of the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City, stressing that it is not she, who may have been affected, but the family of those behind it, and to the leader they idolize.

“Leaders who bring out the worst in people are not what our country needs”, Robredo said in her social media post.

The USLS said it is now investigating its student for a lewd comment against Robredo, that he had posted on his Facebook account.

The USLS Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, in a statement, said that they, including the school alumni and many others, expressed alarm and were upset over the comments made by the 1st year Bachelor of Science and Information Technology student, who claims to be a DDS (Duterte Diehard Supporter).

The student, whose name is being withheld, allegedly posted the lewd comment on his FB page.

While the investigation is ongoing, the USLS said the proper thing to do is for the student to make amends, because, although he has been saying that he did not make the comment, that was allegedly put together by another person, he is not entirely free or spared from the responsibility of having participated, by making similar comments, which is not remote, as can be surmised from the kind of personal photos he puts up on his FB account.

The student said the controversy involving himself in the social media post against Robredo created a tremendous impact on his family, VP Leni and her loved ones, and USLS.

“I am deeply sorry to everyone, who was offended or insulted, especially for VP Leni, by the malicious remarks”, the student said. He expressed his willingness to participate in the ongoing investigation of the university to determine the truthfulness of the FB post that was credited to him.

He also admitted that he received a lot of criticisms from his fellow students, the public, and even the institution alumni, that affected him emotionally and psychologically the past several days.

The student said he realized the value of being extra tactful and prudent in everything that he does, and of safeguarding his social media account.

He stressed he was deeply sorry for the post. “I am hoping that I can still be afforded the presumption of innocence until proven guilty”. The USLS also said in a statement they are doing their best to correct such behavior, without condemning the one who has erred, since the investigation is still ongoing.*GPB
