Former Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday commended President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for delivering his State of the Nation Address that Filipinos will long remember as it covered a wide range of concerns that the country is currently facing, yet he was able to present solutions that he vowed his administration will pursue in the next six years.
“It is one SONA we will long remember. It was comprehensive, substantive, exhaustive and gives us hope for a brighter future,” said Leonardia, who was among those invited to the SONA but attended the event virtually via Zoom with more than 50 others, including former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, some members of the House and the diplomatic corps.
Leonardia was a member of the 17th Congress representing the Lone District of Bacolod from 2013–2016.
Marcos’ SONA centered on his 19-point legislative agenda focused on measures geared towards the recovery of the Philippine economy, tax reforms, re-tooling the agriculture sector, condonation of unpaid loans of agrarian reform beneficiaries and continued efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening of the healthcare system, among others.
“I agree totally with the President that the state of the nation is sound,” the former mayor stressed.
Leonardia said Marcos’ proposed measures to boost the economy amid the health crisis are reassuring especially with his position that there will be no more lockdowns despite the COVID pandemic.
It is also noteworthy, he continued, that the President mentioned that he will continue and even expand the programs of the previous administration, and not suspend them, particularly those projects that are benefitting the Filipinos.*
