Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who is also the League of Cities of the Philippines national president, together with other local chief executives, will attend the townhall meeting organized by the Department of Health and Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines today.
The online session will discuss Covid-19 vaccine prioritization and registration, and the roles that LCEs play to ensure the efficient vaccination rollout among eligible priority groups, a press release from LCP said.
Among the officials expected to participate are governors, city and municipal mayors, and barangay captains. Those who are directly involved in their localities are also invited.
The event is a continuation of the DOH and ULAP’s partnership to provide a venue for local chief executives and the health department to understand how leadership can be further strengthened to improve the delivery of Covid-related health services and fine-tune public health systems in the ongoing pandemic, the press release said.
As the executive vice-president of ULAP, Leonardia said he hopes the online session will provide guidance on how LGUs can support the national government further in fast-tracking the vaccination program.
“I look forward to the government’s updates regarding the phased rollout of the vaccination program,” Leonardia said. “Given the surge of cases in many parts of the country outside the priority areas of NCR Plus, Cebu, and Davao, we must act faster in order to avoid another deadly wave of Covid,” Leonardia added.*
