A 47-year-old male from Barangay Banago, Bacolod City recently succumbed to leptospirosis, bringing to two the total number of deaths in Bacolod City.
The previous fatality was from Brgy. Villamonte.
Dr. Grace Tan, Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) Environmental Sanitation Division head, said the patient was admitted to a hospital on April 18 after he fell ill for four days, and his eyes were observed to be rolling upward. He died two days after admission.
Tan said the fatality also had a fever and suffered seizures. He reportedly fetched water for his neighbor.
Based on records from the CHO, the number of leptospirosis cases decreased by 25 percent for the period of January to April 26 this year, compared to the number of cases last year covering the same period which had eight recorded cases and two deaths.
The barangays in Bacolod with the highest number of leptospirosis cases are Banago with two, and Villamonte, Estefania, Mansilingan and Barangay 1 with one case each.*
