The provincial government of Negros Occidental turned over livelihood assistance, worth P2 million, to the towns and cities of the 1st District in a ceremony in San Carlos City yesterday.

The cities of Escalante and San Carlos, and the towns of Calatrava, Salvador Benedicto, and Toboso each receive 30 piglets. The 150 piglets are worth P675,000.

The turnover ceremony was led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena, and they were joined by provincial and local officials in the district.

This is the third leg of the project intended for the localities in the districts. Local government units of Districts 4 and 6 already received livelihood boost from the Capitol in July and August, respectively.

Decena said this is part of the province’s efforts to sustain the livelihood of affected Negrenses and to ensure its food security program.

Aside from the piglets, the provincial government also turned over P620,000 for the paravet’s allowance, drugs and medicines, and a chicken multiplier farm in San Carlos.

Decena said the chicken multiplier farm will complement the animal breeding center in the city.*
