The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Negros Oriental is asking its counterparts in various local government units to not let their guard down even as Tropical Depression “Crising” was already downgraded to a low-pressure area.
PDRRMO executive officer Adrian Sedillo said advisories have been sent out to flood-prone areas and in places vulnerable to landslides and floods.
Despite the downgrade, he said there is still the possibility of rains in Negros Oriental because of the outer bands of the weather disturbance.
While Public Warning Storm Signal No. 1 has already been lifted from the province, Sedillo advised LGUs to remain vigilant as winds are already picking up and rains have started in some places and rainfall could get worse.
Earlier, the path of “Crising” showed that it would be cutting across Negros Oriental late yesterday or early today.
The LPA was last tracked in the vicinity of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Pagasa still forecast light to moderate, with at times heavy rains over Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao City, Davao del Sur, Cotabato, Maguindanao, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Misamis Occidental.
It also maintained that isolated flash flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible during heavy or prolonged rainfall. Pagasa said the LPA will continue moving westward or west northwestward and emerge over the Sulu Sea in the next six to 12 hours.*PNA
