The San Carlos City Library joined the nation in opening the 32nd Library and Information Services Month celebration, with the theme “Mga Aklatan Bilang Kanlungan ng Karunungan: Tagapangalaga ng Kultura at Pamanang Lokal,” through a motorcade along the major thoroughfares of the city on November 20.
A short program was also held, where City Mayor Renato Gustilo, Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona, and Councilor Victoriana Cabili led the ceremonial ribbon-cutting for the 88th National Book Week which anchored on the theme “BASA.BAYAN.BUKAS”.
Various books such as Rizal’s works and writings and books written by Sancarloseño Prof. Emmanuel Luis Romanillos, including special collections like Philippine Stamp Album 1946 to the date, dioramas, and Messages of the President Vol. VIII, among others, are on display.
City librarian Stella Fetiluna said that the purpose of the event is to increase awareness of the San Carlos community on the importance of reading and the role of the library in developing the reading habits of students and the general public.
Gustilo and Carmona urged the city library staff to teach the street children how to read and value books and encourage them to never give up on their dreams.
Carmona added that it is an honor and advantage for the city that local children are educated since the city is always working for their welfare.
Cabilli, meanwhile, said that people must read to know what is going on not just in our city but in the whole world.
Engr. Herminia Villanueva received a token from the local government on behalf of his brother Prof. Romanillos for his work.
San Carlos City Children and Women’s Affairs Inc. (SCCAWAI) representatives were also present during the event.*
