A lifeless newborn baby boy was discovered abandoned on the side of 24th-Aguinaldo Street in Barangay 1, Bacolod City, on Friday evening.
The Bacolod City Police Office Station 2 responded to a distress call at around 7:37 p.m. and found an unidentified newborn male infant left beside the street reportedly wrapped in a blanket, soaked in blood, and still with the umbilical cord and placenta attached.
The responding officers immediately coordinated with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office personnel who assessed the infant and officially declared no signs of life, noting the absence of both a pulse and breathing.
Police are now conducting a follow-up investigation to identify the person responsible for the abandonment and to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the discovery, the Bacolod City Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) head Richelle Verdeprado-Manga, confirmed that documents are currently being processed for the burial of the infant.
Verdeprado-Manga stressed that the DSSD office remains open for pregnant women who are in need of appropriate intervention and support, aiming to prevent similar tragedies.*
