An 11-year-old boy who was supposed to enjoy playing under the rain was struck by lightning, which resulted in his death at Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Friday.
The victim was identified as “Joel,” not his real name, an 11-year-old grade 6 pupil and a resident of the area.
Initial investigation by the Cadiz Component City Police Office stated that based on the testimony of the victim’s mother, Lovely Bulahan, his son was playing under the santol tree behind their residence while it was raining.
After a lightning strike behind their house, she saw that her son had been hit, which resulted in his death. The victim was immediately brought to Cadiz City Emergency Clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival by an attending physician.
Police said that the incident was reported a day after the incident occurred. The body of the victim now lies at Negrense Funeral Homes in Cadiz City.*
