Thousands of Sagaynons witnessed the official lights-on ceremony to kick-off the annual Sagay Christmas Fair 2024 with a theme “What Can I Give this Christmas,” at the Sagay City Public Plaza on December 10, a press release from Sagay PIO said.
This annual event is one of the anticipated activities in the city, where thousands of Christmas lights and decorations were lit up, signaling the kick-off of a series of activities and performances at the city plaza.
In his speech, Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr., said “may this occasion be a reminder for every Sagaynon to be someone who always gives to contribute to the wellbeing of others.”
“Our theme speaks about what we can give this Christmas and I believe giving is a matter of the heart and must be a lifestyle,” the mayor said.
“Even if it’s Christmas or not, we continually contribute to the wellbeing of others to strengthen the bond of our community and create a better city,” he added.
The event was highlighted with the performances from previous winners of the Voice Idol of Sagay, State University of Northern Negros Chorale, Sinigayan Kahoneros, and SUNN-Integrated Performing Arts Club.
Prior to the main program, various schools of Sagay paraded in the major thoroughfares of the city wearing Christmas-inspired costumes and light decorations at the annual DepEd Christmas Lantern Parade.
Javelosa, together with Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, city councilors, department heads, and barangay captains led the countdown of the lights on ceremony.
Following the lights on was a 20-minute fireworks display.
Vice Mayor Cueva also said this Christmas, we are inspired to give the gifts of kindness, patience, generosity, and integrity not only during holidays but every day.
“May this season remind us to give our best and embrace the true spirit of Christmas: love, hope, and community”, he said, adding “We will continue to make Sagay a brighter, stronger, and more united city.”
After the lights-on ceremony, there will be a series of nightly band performances at the Plaza Promenade, as well as nightly performances at the Plaza stage, from Dec. 18 to 21.*
