BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Mayor Neil Lizares of Talisay City yesterday was added to the list of mayors in Negros Occidental, who expressed their support to the continues tandem of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who is affiliated with Love Negros, and United Negros Alliance  President Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer.

Despite expressing his support for Ferrer and Lacson, apparently, it seems Lizares, a Love Negros member, will be challenged by Vice Mayor Samuel Siote of UNegA.

Lizares said received information that Siote will run against him in the elections next year but Siote clarified that he has not issued such statement yet claiming that it may have originated from some people from Talisay City.

Siote said he will decide after his consultation with the people from 27 barangays of the city.

Lizares confirmed that he will seek re-election, with former Talisay City Councilor Nicolai Jalandoni as his running mate for the vice-mayoralty race along with all the incumbent councilors.

Aside from Lacson- Ferrer tandem,Lizares said they will also support the re-election of Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez.

Eight other mayors affiliated either with Love Negros and UNegA earlier pledged their support to the Lacson-Ferrer tandem.

Lizares lauded the leadership of Lacson in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, in tandem with Ferrer, adding that, the transfer of Provincial Capitol administrative building and construction of NOLITC (Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center), among other infrastructure projects, is a big welcome development for Talisay City.

Lacson yesterday thanked the mayors for their continued support to his tandem with Vice Gov. Ferrer, and described their relationship with various local government units as “very good”.

He also said that the provincial government is trying to address whatever requests are made by the local government units to further motivate them to do better, hopefully, if they will be given another term.*
