At least 15 local craftsmen and art enthusiasts from San Carlos City started learning terracotta medium-size sculpture and pottery from August 30-31, at the Brgy. Guadalupe covered court in the city.
The activity was facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Negros Occidental through the San Carlos City Negosyo Center led by Local Economic Investment Promotion Officer Designate Ma. Novah Sollesta.
Sollesta shared that the activity involves an interaction between the resource person and local potters or art enthusiasts which will gear the community toward a more progressive cultural life while opening the doors to a variety of interactions in terms of ideas, marketing approaches, and products.
Guest speaker and demonstrator Danilo Sollesta, visual artist of Mariyah Art Gallery in Dumaguete City, said that the workshop will help strengthen and preserve the traditional techniques of the local potters while seeking to introduce innovative processes in clay handling.
He added that the workshop will be beneficial also to the clay artisans of Sitio Panuolan since the local clay products have been featured, making its way to the different markets in different in Negros Island or beyond.
On the other hand, Myth Carbajosa, Bush Grounds owner and coffee supplier, shared that she attended the workshop as a hobbyist to learn the process of sculpting and pot making that will help her greatly with her coffee business since she is planning to make a huge jar for coffee to store and mugs that will be used in drinking coffee.
The participants were given the chance to give life to their artist ideas through their hands-on activity with the use of terracotta clay.*
