Miss Grand International 2024 Christine Juliane “CJ” Opiaza hosted the fashion gala for a cause at The Ruins in Talisay City, Negros Occidental on September 13 where Miss Universe Philippines-Negros Island Region (MUPH-NIR) candidates showcased stunning creations of local and international Negros Island designers.
The charity dinner and fashion show was organized by MUPH-NIR in partnership with John John Ditching Couture, Robert Blancaflor Group, the Municipality of Valladolid, and The Ruins for the benefit of Kalipay Negrense Foundation.
The event was also held in celebration of Ditching’s 34 years in the fashion industry, in collaboration with Negrense designers Aljohn Belnas, Apol Embang, Brylie Hiponia, Carmeli Bantug, Christopher Mallo, Edwin Benitez, James Larnelle, Jeremiah Gazo, Jofel Chua, Jude Chael, Leonardo Taño Geraldes, Rennie Braza, Stephanie Ferraris, and Steve Genzola.

Also featured was the Valladolid Looms and Weavers Association, whose “hablon” (handwoven artisan textile) were used by the designers in creating their masterpieces.
Valladolid Mayor Ricardo Prebitero Jr. said that in the next three years, his town envisions “hablon” weaving to rise again as both a cultural treasure and a thriving cottage industry.
“We will expand ‘hablon’ into a global fashion and of design showcasing its elegance on runways and households. And most importantly, we will ensure that every thread woven provides livelihood and dignity to our artisans, turning heritage into hope,” he added.*
