The Bacolod City government and the Forza Development Corporation (FDC) formally signed the contract of lease for the Bacolod Integrated Recycling Technology Hub and Waste to Energy (WTE) Industrial Zone facility.
Mayor Greg Gasataya and FDC President Sheryl Chua led the signing of an agreement that covers a 10-hectare city-owned property situated near the sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa.
The contract spans a 25-year term, though the Mayor noted that the agreement is subject to future negotiations and periodic rental adjustments.
Under the financial terms of the contract, the FDC will pay an annual rent of P1 million.
The facility is expected to be the first of its kind in the Philippines.
The project’s progression now depends on a waste characterization study and the subsequent evaluation and approval from the Department of Energy (DOE).
The mayor reiterated his long-standing support for WTE technology as a necessary direction for the city’s waste management infrastructure.
He said that the project is a key component of the city’s waste diversion strategy, aimed at making accumulated garbage productive.*
