As part of the month-long celebration of National Disaster Resiliency Month, the local government unit of Sipalay, through its City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, held a turnover program and the signing of deed of donation for a 3,502 square meters lot to the Philippine Coast Guard-Sipalay on July 16.
The allotted land area will be utilized as the site of the PCG station in the city.
During the event, the PCG also conducted a simulation exercise of their search and rescue operations aimed to equip the personnel with the right knowledge and skills in this type of situation. It is in preparation for any untoward incidents such as boat accidents.
Sipalay is known for its pristine beaches and numerous tourist attractions, and island hopping is one of the major tourist activities.
Councils from the coastal barangays of the city, beach resorts and resorts owners, life guard trainees of Water Search and Rescue (WASAR), Philippine National Police, and City Risk Reduction and Management Office also participated in the event.
Also present at was the Executive Assistant for Public Safety and Security Dionilo Bogtae who gave a message highlighting the preparedness of the rescue personnel and allied agencies on the search and rescue operations.
He also reminded the resorts owners, especially those in beach areas, to discourage guests from swimming on the beach, especially during bad weather.
Coast Guard Western Visayas District Commander CG Commodore Edgar Ybañez with PCG-SNOC Sipalay Station Commander CG LTJG Carla Mayang, PCGCC Station Commander CG PO2 Dave Guevarra and Special Operation Force, Coast Guard Search and Rescue Base – Hinobaan CG Hope Rubias also attended the event.*
