LPA to bring moderate to heavy rains till Friday

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Negros Occidental will experience moderate to heavy rains on Thursday and Friday, due to the effects of a Low Pressure Area and southwest monsoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

The LPA, about 200 kilometers northeast of Surigao City, and the southwest monsoon or “habagat” brought rain showers across the country on Wednesday, the state weather bureau said.

In an advisory, PAGASA said that flooding and rain induced landslides remain likely, especially in areas that are highly, or very susceptible to these hazards, as identified in hazard maps and areas with significant antecedent rainfall.

Severe thunderstorms could also result in flash floods or landslides, it added.

The weather bureau advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.

The state weather bureau specifically mentioned areas of Cadiz, Sagay, and Escalante cities, Calatrava, Toboso and Salvador Benedicto, Manapla, E.B. Magalona, cities of Silay, Talisay and San Carlos, as well as Murcia.*
