BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

League of Provinces national president Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. aired proposals for the executive department to allocate at least 20 percent of the National Expenditure Program to development projects proposed by local government units.

This was aired by Tamayo to his colleagues during the 2nd General Assembly of LPP on September 30 in South Cotabato.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, who attended the LPP general assembly, said the proposal got the support of fellow governors.

If there is a green light, first we would like to know the amount to be given to the governors, then we can decide, Lacson said.

He noted that congressmen also get their budgets from the National Expenditure Program through the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Lacson said that governors were also told by Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who attended the LPP meeting, that there is a lump sum budget of P530 billion at the DPWH.

Tamayo, in a statement issued by LPP, said that now the best time for LGUs to have a bigger voice, during the administration of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who was a former full-term governor himself.*
