The New Year’s turned violent in the town of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, after a man and a woman were left wounded in a hacking incident in Sitio Barrio Daan, Barangay Guinpana-an, in the early hours of January 1.
The suspect was identified by the alias ‘Boy,’ a 35-year-old driver and resident of the barangay, while the identity of the female victim was withheld by the authorities.
Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station (MPS) reported in a media interview that the victim was heading home after a drinking session when she was intercepted by the suspect along the road and a heated argument ensued between the two.
The confrontation escalated when the woman, reportedly armed with a cane cutter, locally known as ‘espading’, hacked the suspect, striking him on the left side of his head.
The suspect then managed to wrestle the weapon away from the woman and allegedly used the same cane cutter to hack her multiple times, hitting her on the back of her head and left shoulder.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the Moises Padilla MPS pending legal disposition.*
