A Christmas celebration ended in the emergency room when a 38-year-old man was injured after a suspected accidental firearm discharge in Barangay Cabug, Bacolod City, according to the police.
The victim is identified as alias ‘Joeben,’ a resident of Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City.
Police report said he was having a drinking session with two other individuals, celebrating Christmas at Johin Trucking Garage in Barangay Cabug, when he suddenly felt a sharp pain and discovered gunshot wounds in his left thigh and left hand at around 2:00 a.m. on December 25.
After alias Joeben was brought to the emergency room South Bacolod General Hospital for immediate treatment, the hospital security alerted the Police Station 9 to report the incident.
While the case is being handled as a possible accidental discharge, police are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the source of the firearm and the exact circumstances that led to the shooting.
Bacolod City Police Office Spokesperson PCapt. Andro Maapni said that they are not ruling out the possibility that the incident was self-inflicted.
The victim and his companions have volunteered to undergo a paraffin test.*
