Two lives were lost yesterday in a violent incident at Laurel Street, Don Juan Subdivision, Barangay 2, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental after an uncle brutally stabbed his nephew dead, and then set himself and their house on fire.
Initial reports indicate that a concerned citizen reported hearing a stabbing assault in the area. Upon arrival, responding police officers found the young victim lying on the pavement with multiple stab wounds across his body. The boy had succumbed to his injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect, identified only as ‘Raymund,’ 34, mauled and stabbed his sleeping 14-year-old nephew. The motive for the assault remains unclear.
After the stabbing, the suspect reportedly set fire to the house, with him inside, resulting in his death.
The blaze was quickly extinguished by firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in San Carlos City. During the search, firefighters discovered the suspect’s lifeless body inside the charred residence.
Both the victim and the suspect will undergo post-mortem examinations as authorities continue their investigation into the event.
As of the press time, police are working to establish the motive and gather evidence to piece together what led to the tragedy.*
