A man who ran amok at Purok Malipayun, Brgy. Batuan, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, was shot dead after allegedly assaulting responding police officers on November 7.
The suspect, armed with a steel pipe, hit and destroyed a tricycle occupied by its driver and a passenger, the investigation of the La Carlota City police showed.
Responding policemen, who were on board a police patrol vehicle, were also attacked by the suspect who hit the windshield of their vehicle several times.
Despite identifying themselves as police officers, the suspect continuously hit the police vehicle, which prompted one of the police officers who was trapped inside to shoot the suspect, investigations of the La Carlota police further showed.
The suspect, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, was declared dead on arrival at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City, according to the police.
Recovered from the scene of the incident were a 25 inches steel pipe and four empty cartridges of a 9mm caliber pistol.*
