A 38-year-old person, reportedly suffering from a mental disorder, was injured after being shot, allegedly for assaulting a barangay captain, on August 4, in Brgy. Tinongan, Isabela, Negros Occidental.
Initial police investigations show that Tinongan barangay chairman Eugenio Sambrona, 58, responded to a reported alarm and scandal incident which involved the victim, identified as Ramil Cardona.
Upon arrival at the scene of incident, Cardona, 38, who was armed with a bolo, assaulted Sambrona, police investigations showed.
This prompted Sambrona to shoot Cardona, who was hit in both thighs. He was immediately brought to a hospital for treatment for the gunshot injuries.
On the other hand, Sambrona surrendered to the Isabela Police Station, and endorsed a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine containing six live ammunition, including his firearms license.
Meanwhile, Barangay tanod Argie Tabanao also turned over a 17-inch bolo recovered from the victim, who allegedly suffers from a mental disorder, police said.*
