Man stabbed by drinking partner

• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

A man was stabbed by his drinking partner, due to a misunderstanding and intoxication, at Tan-awan Public Market, Brgy. Tan-awan, in Kabankalan City on Monday noon.

The police investigation revealed that a misunderstanding occurred during the drinking session involving the two. As the conflict rose, the suspect went to his motorcycle, took his knife, and suddenly stabbed the victim, hitting the latter at the lower right portion of his chest.

The victim, identified as Larry Ababao, a 36-year-old laborer and a resident of the barangay, was rushed to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital and fortunately survived, police said.

Meanwhile, the suspect, identified as Elvy Acson, a 50-year-old laborer and a resident of the same barangay, fled the scene after the crime. The police were unable to apprehend him at the scene, as the incident took place 12 kilometers away from the police station.

As of the press time, the suspect has not yet been arrested. However, the Kabankalan Component City Police Station conducted a follow-up investigation with the victim and witnesses, and a hot pursuit operation is ongoing for the possible apprehension of the suspect.*
