• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

A 37-year-old man who traded shots with the police, was injured and arrested on Tuesday midnight, at Purok Balinday in Barangay 2, Bacolod City.

The arrest of the armed suspect, identified by the police as Jojo Arnaiz, 37, yielded a Colt caliber .45 pistol and a fragmentation grenade.

The initial police investigation indicated that the police were responding to reports that a person was in the possession of a firearm inside a computer shop in the place.

When he noticed the presence of policemen, Arnaiz tried to escape, while firing his gun at the pursuing lawmen.

Arnaiz, who was injured in the armed confrontation, was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Aside from the pistol and fragmentation grenade, the police also recovered fired cartridges of caliber .45 and 9mm pistols, and seven live ammunition at the crime scene.

Arnaiz faces charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives, as well as violation of the Comelec gun ban, according to P/Maj. Eugene Tolentino, Police Station 2 commander.*
