The internal cleansing campaign of newly-installed Region 6 police director, Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda, will start with the mandatory drug testing of the 13,000 police personnel in Western Visayas.
Lt. Col. Joem Malong, regional police spokesperson, said yesterday that the mandatory drug testing was announced by Miranda during the staff conference held at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.
Malong said that testing kits are now available to be used in the drug tests, that will be administered by the PNP Crime Laboratory, and supervised by the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division.
“Internal cleansing will start here in the mandatory drug test,” Miranda told his staff during the conference.
Malong said that Miranda warned that those who fail to have themselves tested as scheduled will face administrative charges.
Personnel found positive for using illegal drugs may face charges for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer, that are all dismissible offenses, Malong added. Miranda earlier said he will intensify the anti-drug campaign in Western Visayas. He tasked regional and provincial police offices to neutralize high value target drug personalities, while municipal and city police stations were given a mandate to focus on street level target drug personalities.*
