A 30-man special unit of the Philippine National Police Maritime Command has been activated and deployed in Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.
Col. Simeon Gane, PNP Maritime Command regional director for Western Visayas, led the activation and deployment of the 4th Special Operation Unit of Maritime Command Nov. 27 in Hinobaan, that was witnessed by Mayor Ernesto Estrao.
Estrao yesterday confirmed that he requested the deployment of the Maritime Command in the town to help enforce maritime laws, secure the town coastal areas and visiting tourists, as well as maintenance of peace and order.
While there is no threat to peace and order in coastal areas of Hinobaan, Estrao said yesterday that it is better to be pro-active always.
The Maritime Command personnel are presently stationed in Brgy. Pook, Hinobaan, pending the construction of their headquarters in a 600-meter lot donated by the municipal government, Estrao said.
He also announced that they are now accepting tourists from Negros Occidental, but they are required to present medical certificates, upon entering the town, amid the Covid pandemic.
Based on the advisory issued by the municipal government of Hinobaan, there is no local transmission in the town, with only one active case, as of Nov. 27.
The four persons, who were close contacts of the patient, are also under quarantine.*GPB
