A solo exhibition by seasoned Negrense artist Rodney Martinez titled “Love of Family Life and Love of Nature,” opened at G-Space Art Gallery, Art District, Bacolod City on April 25.
His work in the exhibit revolves around the theme of family, mother and child, women, flowers, and nature, in time for the celebration of Mother’s Day, a celebration honoring mothers, and their influence in society.
Rodney Martinez is one of the pillars of the Negrense Art scene. He was among the founders and a past president of the Art Association of Bacolod—the longest running visual art organization in the Visayas. He has exhibited his work in various areas in the country, joined several exhibitions, and has been one of the favorite artists of various art collectors.

Martinez was born in December 18, 1939, at Pontevedra, Negros Occidental. He took up commerce in La Consolacion College Bacolod, shifted to Architecture, then through the encouragement of a cousin, went to the University of Sto. Tomas to pursue a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising.
After college, Martinez engaged in various jobs – working as a salesman, a designer, a guitarist in a band, and also taught in the LCC Bacolod Fine Arts program. He retired early in his teaching job and committed to his art practice.*
