This year’s MassKara will renew the spirit of Bacolod as Festival Director Rodney Mitz Ascalon said on Monday, that the festival will highlight the talents of local artists.

In a press conference the Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. head said that the logo, music, music video, composer, and video productions will be performed and directed by locals.

“We are actually creating events that people will go, sit down and gather, so all of the highlights will be local talents, could it be competition, showcase of talents, showcase of sectorals, that’s going to be run and spotlight our locals,” Ascalon said.

Since its return in 2022, the festival’s official theme song has been dominated by artists from Manila, including Darren Espanto, Kyle Echarri, and Josh Cullen.

“We’re here to bring out the best of Bacolod, […] I believe I am ready. We will be bringing back the heart of MassKara, and the heart of MassKara is the locals,” Ascalon added.

Moreover, Ascalon said that they are already in the 60 percent of planning and will be having a Grand Media Launch on September 5, where they will announce the official theme of this year’s festival.*
