MassKara Festival weekend set

Bacolod City is gearing up for one of its most anticipated weekends of the year as the MassKara Festival Weekend kicks off today, October 17, bringing an exciting lineup of events that celebrate the city’s culture, creativity, and community spirit.

According to a press release from the organizers, the highlight of the opening night on October 17 is the Electric MassKara Float Parade, which will start at 6 p.m. from Megaworld, pass through the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), and return to Megaworld where the floats will remain on display.

This year’s floats are designed around the theme “One Smile. One City. One Heart.”, each representing a distinct aspect of Bacolod’s identity. “One Smile” pays tribute to the city’s colorful festivals such as Bacolodiat, the Film Festival, Inasal Festival, and Rum Festival. “One City” showcases Bacolod’s most iconic spots including the San Sebastian Cathedral, Plaza, and Yulo’s Park. “One Heart” puts the spotlight on the city’s rich culinary culture, with floats themed around Cansi, cakes, seafood, and famous pasalubong treats like piaya and napoleones.

Immediately following the float parade, the spotlight shifts to the BCGC Stage for the MassKara Dance Off Competition at 7 p.m., where local dance crews will bring high-energy performances in a dynamic showdown that captures the rhythm and vibrancy of the festival.

Adding to the celebration is the return of the much-loved Lacson Tourism Strip parties which will transform into Heartonic, a three-day street party running from October 17 to 19.

Drawing an expected crowd of over 100,000 visitors daily, Heartonic will feature five entertainment stages, hundreds of performers and guest artists, along with food stalls, local delicacies, brand activations, and pop-up shops.

The strip will pulse with music, lights, and the joyful spirit of the MassKara Festival, making it the ultimate destination for both locals and tourists.

To ensure public safety throughout the festivities, the Inter-Agency Department of the Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. has coordinated closely with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), local government units, and force multipliers. Security personnel and emergency responders will be stationed across all key locations to manage crowds and maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.*
